The Royal Canal

We walked the Royal canal from Leixlip to Maynooth taking in Carton House and on another occasion to the M50 overpass which is some feat of engineering! As it's a flat walk it makes for an easy walk except in wet weather where there is just mud and lots of it in places but mostly good surface for walking/cycling. The entrance to Carton house is across the road from the canal before you come to Maynooth

Leixlip Confy GAA/Carton house and back 16km.
Leixlip Connfy GAA to M50 and back 17km

Location : Dublin to Longford

Distance : 145km

Difficulty : Easy

Car park : Depending on where you decide to join the canal there may be parking available to you - research your options accordingly.

The Hellfire Club

The Hellfire Club on Montpelier Hill is a very popular destination for families as not only is it an easy walk but there is a 'spooky' ruin at the top to lure little legs up the hill!

The entrance from the car park leads to the main forest road, which goes around the top of the mountain.
Located off the R115 - Old Military Road close to the M50 Exit 12/Knocklyon.
You can follow signs for 'Timbertrove' which is located across the road from the Hellfire Club car park which quite a large carpark but can be very busy at weekends. There are about 4.5 km of forest roads and tracks to explore.

Carpark : Yes
Altitude : 383m (1264 ft)
Location : R115 Old Military road
Nearby : Massey Estate Woods
